- The iPod Mini weighs 2 lbs., which makes it much smaller than most other portable consumer electronics. The player has a 1.67-inch back-lit screen for viewing song title and artist information.
- The iPod Mini comes in variety of colors (silver, gold, green, pink and blue), and is available in a 4GB and 8GB capacity. The 4GB version is capable of holding 1,000 songs, while the 8GB version can handle 2,000.
- The iPod Mini is designed to be used primarily as a personal audio player and is capable of reading audio files in MP3, AAC, WAV, MP3 VBR, Audible (6) and AIFF formats. The personal audio player also has a calendar for storing information about upcoming events, a place to store contacts and the ability to support several video games.
- The iPod Mini can last up to eight hours on a single battery charge. Fully charging the battery takes three hours, though the battery can reach 80 percent of capacity with one hour of charge time.
- Unlike many other MP3 players, the iPod Mini connects to a computer via Firewire. To transfer music to the device, your PC or Mac will have to have iTunes installed and have a functional Firewire port.
- The iPod Mini was made available by Apple on Jan. 7, 2004. It was replaced on Nov. 2, 2006, with the introduction of the much-smaller iPod Nano.
