Apple's iPod Mini is a smaller version of its popular iPod MP3 player. The iPod Mini was discontinued after being made for several years but is still available new on a variety of electronics store websites for purchase as well as used from individuals who purchased the player while it was still widely available.

    Size

  1. The iPod Mini weighs 2 lbs., which makes it much smaller than most other portable consumer electronics. The player has a 1.67-inch back-lit screen for viewing song title and artist information.
  2. Types

  3. The iPod Mini comes in variety of colors (silver, gold, green, pink and blue), and is available in a 4GB and 8GB capacity. The 4GB version is capable of holding 1,000 songs, while the 8GB version can handle 2,000.
  4. Function

  5. The iPod Mini is designed to be used primarily as a personal audio player and is capable of reading audio files in MP3, AAC, WAV, MP3 VBR, Audible (6) and AIFF formats. The personal audio player also has a calendar for storing information about upcoming events, a place to store contacts and the ability to support several video games.
  6. Battery Life

  7. The iPod Mini can last up to eight hours on a single battery charge. Fully charging the battery takes three hours, though the battery can reach 80 percent of capacity with one hour of charge time.
  8. Considerations

  9. Unlike many other MP3 players, the iPod Mini connects to a computer via Firewire. To transfer music to the device, your PC or Mac will have to have iTunes installed and have a functional Firewire port.
  10. History

  11. The iPod Mini was made available by Apple on Jan. 7, 2004. It was replaced on Nov. 2, 2006, with the introduction of the much-smaller iPod Nano.
