Different Kinds of Jelly Beans

According to the National Confectioners Association, jelly beans are believed to derive from of a Mid-Eastern confection known as Turkish Delight, dating back to Biblical times. Does this Spark an idea?

    • Jelly beans have a gummy center inside and a hard candy shell. They come in a variety of flavors. There are three types: old fashioned, gourmet and organic. Jelly beans can be found all year round, but are most popular during Easter.

    United States Debut

    • The jelly bean made its way into U.S. general stores as the preferred penny candy in the early 1900s.

    Old Fashioned/Traditional

    • Old fashioned jelly beans are also known as traditional jelly beans. They come in basic flavors including licorice, cherry, vanilla and cotton candy. The majority of their flavor is found in the shell.

    Gourmet

    • These jelly beans tend to be softer and smaller compared to the traditional jelly beans. Their flavor can be found in the middle and the outer shell. Different gourmet jelly bean flavors include cinnamon, bubble gum and caramel apple.

    Organic

    • Surf Sweets, an organic and natural candy company, produces jelly beans without corn syrup and they contain real fruit juice.
