Ideas for Photo Displays

Nothing can bring you back to the time and place of a cherished memory like a beautiful photograph. We take photos to document a time in our life or an inspiring image, and displaying these photos in our home helps us recall that time.

Frame It

  • If your favorite way to show off photos is in a frame on a wall, freshen up your display. Rather than using mismatched novelty frames bought on vacations and received as gifts, invest in a set of matching frames. The cohesiveness of the display will look intentional and will lead the eye to focus on the photos.

Temporary Display

  • If you are constantly switching up your displayed photos, or adding more to the bunch, consider a way of temporarily displaying your favorites. Tack some twine or decorative ribbon to a kitchen or hallway wall, in a zigzag pattern or whatever looks best to you. Use small clips or clothespins to hang photographs randomly. When new baby photos come in the mail, you can pin them right up.

Collage

  • Rather than placing framed photos randomly throughout a room, designate one area for them. Arrange the frames on the wall in a collage, keeping them uniformly spaced but using different sizes and dimensions. The clustered display will be a focal point for a room.

Scrap It

  • Add a story to a favorite photo by framing and displaying it a scrapbook page. Design a page around a favorite shot, using different textures and layers of paper. Then create a journal entry that explains the situation and the significance of it.

Digital

  • Any tech-savvy homeowner would enjoy a digital photo frame. Though they require a bit of an investment, a digital photo frame can rotate your favorite photos in a crystal clear display. They come in many different sizes, resolutions and price ranges.
