The senior pastor of a Christian church is often the top authority in the local body or congregation. While he will answer to his bishop or overseer, most everyday decisions and jobs are left up to him or her. Here are some examples of the senior pastor jobs that these leaders perform everyday.

  1. Weddings

    • As ordained ministers, senior pastors can officiate at weddings. Marrying people is one of the jobs of the senior pastor.

    Funerals

    • Funerals are ceremonies that give loved ones an opportunity to say goodbye and celebrate the life of their recently departed loved one. As an ordained minister, a senior pastor can officiate and lead a funeral.

    Counseling

    • Senior pastors counsel people with addictions and people who just need a spiritual perspective. Counseling the grieving, the sick and depressed is part of the senior pastor's job.

    Preaching

    • A senior pastor educates the congregration about the Bible. Senior pastors often do this by preaching or teaching the Bible weekly, usually on Saturdays, Sundays or Wednesdays.

    Administration

    • Churches with smaller staffs will find their senior pastor recording the offering and tithe, paying the bills and updating records.
