Reasons to Carpool
Renewable energy -- so important in a world of diminishing resources. In the recent past, the story was different. Wood-burning stoves were used for cooking and heat, solar energy dried our clothes, and windmills dotted the plains from Seville to the Shelter Island. These were clean energy resources. Now we have become dependent on gas-powered vehicles and hence on fossil fuels, a sharply dwindling reserve. We need to reverse this trend. And carpooling is one way to help do this.

What you save
-
1. Time. You can zip along in the carpool lane while the rest of the traffic is at a standstill.
2. Gasoline. Running one car instead of two or more (some counties require at least three passengers to qualify the vehicle for carpool).
What you reduce
-
1. Carbon emissions. The fewer the number of cars the lesser the fuel burned and hence lower carbon emissions.
2. Driving stress. You have company for conversation and to act as an extra pair of eyes. -
What you gain
-
1. A more reasonable work schedule. You have to leave work at the fixed hour.
2. Parking space. Offices often have designated spaces for ride-share vehicles.
What you share
-
1. Fuel, toll and parking costs.
2. Corporate or government incentives for carpooling.
How it happened
-
Modern technology has made nomads of us. If we can ride-share then we gain much. The earth thanks us for greening the world again.

I liked your very appropriate nomad analogy. 5 stars
