- Aarhus is a port city with direct access to the North Sea, and a ferry that runs to Kallundborg on the island of Zealand; from there, one can get a train to Copenhagen. Aarhus also has direct train connections to Copenhagen, Odense and Hamburg.
- A section of Aarhus is referred to as the Latin Quarter; a small, trendy area, it is often crowded with visitors shopping and walking along the streets.
- This open-air folk art museum is one of the big tourist attractions in this city; visitors can find scores of craft shops and small exhibitions tucked away in old half-timbered houses. There is even a botanical garden nearby.
- The largest church in Denmark, the Aarhus Cathedral, is located in downtown Aarhus. Begun in 1200 A.D., it wasn't completed until two hundred years later.
- In the old Norse language, the word Viking simply means "by the bay." Aarhus, with its proximity to water, was a prime location for the Vikings; there is even a small Viking museum here to commemorate their activities.
