Multiple Intelligences Learning Style
Dr. Howard Gardner proposed that there are seven different kinds of intelligences. Each person has strengths and weaknesses among these different learning styles. More recently the Naturalist Intelligence was added to the list, making eight different recognized learning styles. An individual will usually have a combination of learning styles.
-
Visual and Spatial Learner
-
The visual-spatial learner learns through seeing pictures, videos and illustrated information. A visual learner usually prefers to sit near the front where they have an unobstructed view.
Auditory and Musical Learners
-
Auditory learners learn through listening to others and talking about ideas. Auditory learners often benefit from recording lessons and reading aloud. Musically talented learners respond to sounds, rhythms and patterns.
-
Verbal and Linguistic Learners
-
Verbal learners like to use words in speech and in writing. They may talk continuously and need to hear themselves repeat the information out loud.
Physical and Kinesthetic Learners
-
Kinesthetic learners learn through doing. They need hands-on activity. Kinesthetic learners often have a hard time sitting still. They need to move, explore and touch. They learn by interacting with the environment around them.
Logical Mathematical Learners
-
Logical learners prefer organized information in steps or a system. Logical learners like to classify and categorize information. They are good at problem solving and mathematical calculations.
Interpersonal and Intrapersonal Learners
-
Interpersonal learners are social learners. They relate to other people well understanding the feelings and motivations of others. They are the peacemakers and good communicators.
Intrapersonal learners are solitary learners. They are good at recognizing their own strengths and weaknesses. They reflect and analyze themselves and understand their role in a group or situation.
