What Are the Duties of a Retail Assistant Manager?
The retail assistant manager has many responsibilities. Most are similar to the managers' responsibilities because he must be able to step into the manager's place when he isn't around. He also needs to know every position in the store so he can also do that work when necessary.

Staff Supervision

The assistant manager must have good people skills because he must make sure his staff is performing to the best of their ability. Checking the work and monitoring the staff at all times are all part of the job.

Making sure the store is well-stocked, clean and organized are all parts of the assistant manager's job. If things are disorganized or dirty, people won't come back.
Scheduling

When the manager is not available or when he delegates it to the assistant manager, it's the assistant manager's responsibility to see that the store has sufficient staff during all the hours that it is open.

There are times when the hiring and firing of personnel falls to the assistant manager. Therefore, the assistant manager needs to know the areas where employees are lacking, and he needs to know where the store needs more personnel.
