Natural Ear Wax Cleaning

Ear wax is nature's way to clean your ears. But sometimes, ear wax can build up and lead to blockages that cause gradual hearing loss and headaches. There are a few, simple ways to help keep your ears clean and clear. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Oils

    • Use baby oil, mineral oil or olive oil. Use an eyedropper to place several drops of the oil in the ear with the head tilted to the side. Wait until you can feel the oil draining into the ear. Repeat the process for a few days to soften the ear wax.

    Water

    • Once the wax has been softened, gently squeeze water from an ear syringe into the ear to wash away any excess. The water should be as close to body temperature as possible.

    Hydrogen Peroxide

    • Another method involves placing a few drops of hydrogen peroxide into the ear. You will hear a crackling sound as the peroxide clears the wax.

    Alcohol

    • Once the excess wax has been cleared, place a few drops of rubbing alcohol into the ear. This will absorb any moisture left in the ear and evaporate to dry it completely.

    Candeling

    • Ear candeling, or using warm smoke to loosen wax, has been debated as an effective method. Consult a physician before considering this method.
