The Effects of Mulligan Technique With Ultrasound on Tennis Elbow

The Mulligan Technique utilizes elastic adhesive tape to provide pain relief to joints with chronic pain issues. Those suffering from tennis elbow, a chronic condition where the outer elbow is inflamed and painful, are using this therapeutic technique to reduce and eliminate symptoms.

  1. Taping

    • Elastic tape is applied at the point(s) where the wrist extensors can be moved without pain; the points are determined by thumb palpitation while the patient extends the wrist.

    Ultrasound

    • Ultrasound can be used as part of the therapy to increase the blood flow to the elbow and bring vital nutrients to help in the healing process.

    During Therapy

    • During therapy, a patient should not feel any pain while having the elbow taped with this technique; if there is pain, the tape was applied to the glide point incorrectly.

    Post-Therapy

    • While there should be no pain during the procedure, swelling may occur after therapy. As a result, ice and ibuprofen should still be utilized as anti-swelling modalities.

    Long-term Effect

    • Most people who utilize the Mulligan Technique with ultra sound as therapy report a significant reduction in pain; to eliminate discomfort permanently, patients need to correct the activity that was causing the initial problem.
