Each year, more than 20 million people around the world fall victim to the measles. The measles is a very contagious virus that can easily be spread from one person to the next. There is currently no known cure for the measles. Here are the signs and symptoms of measles in adults.

  1. Early Identification

    • The main way to identify measles is the occurrence of a rash on your skin. The rash will cause an itchy discomfort. The rash will consist of large red blotches that look as if they're connected. Measles in adults tends to spread from the head and chest downward to the rest of the body.

    Other Signs

    • One of the first signs that adults who've contracted the measles experience is a fever. The fever is usually mild and brings on other signs of the measles like a runny nose and dry cough.

    Symptoms

    • Symptoms of the measles in adults include a sensitivity to light, diarrhea and earache. This combination of symptoms is usually followed by a temperature spike, where your fever may become more severe.

    Onset

    • A measles infection usually occurs about 10 to 14 days after exposure to the virus.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Adults can prevent the measles by taking a measles, mumps and rubella vaccination, also known as a MMR vaccine.
