For many of us, losing our belly fat is a serious goal. Dreams of chiseled six packs fill our heads as we engage in routines to flatten our stomachs. A mixture of a proper diet, cardiovascular regimen and other exercises are necessary to remove our belly fat.

  1. Food

    • Before considering an exercise routine, take a hard look at the foods you eat. Avoid fast food and other processed foods, instead opting for fresh, leafy vegetables and high-protein meals that are low in fat. Usually, the more variety of color on your plate, the healthier your meal.

    Cardio

    • If your abs lurk beneath layers of belly fat, crunches will do little to reveal them. Consider walking, jumping rope, biking, or swimming. Losing belly fat depends heavily on cardiovascular exercise.

    Floor Exercises

    • Many exercises that tone abs call for nothing but open floor space. For example, bicycle crunches tone both your abs and obliques as you bend forward, twisting your torso, while you pump your legs as if pedaling a bike.

    Broomstick Exercises

    • Martial arts legend Bruce Lee, known for his chiseled abs, used a broomstick for a variety of belly exercises. Placing a broomstick on his shoulders, he would sit in a chair and twist back and forth as he flexed his abdominal muscles.

    Pull-up Bar Exercises

    • A pull-up bar provides the perfect opportunity for toning your belly. Hanging from the bar, use your abs to lift your legs past your hips. Be careful not to use momentum to swing your legs.

    Things to Remember

    • When beginning an exercise routine, it's important not to overload yourself. Start slow and work your way up to avoid burnout. Make a goal to change your lifestyle instead of participating in the latest fad diet or workout routine.
