This popular veterinarian recommended product is applied once a month and kills fleas within 12 hours and ticks within 48 hours. It is also effective against chewing lice. Frontline is applied topically between the shoulder blades.
Advantage

This once a month topical product stops fleas from biting within 3 to 5 minutes and kills the fleas within 12 hours. It is also effective against chewing lice; however it does not work against ticks.

This product protects dogs against fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. As Frontline and Advantage, it kills fleas within 12 hours. Households with cats should use extreme caution and prevent exposure to treated dogs until the product has dried because it can be very toxic to cats.
Preventic Tick Collar

This veterinarian recommended product produced by Virbac presents as a tick collar that kills ticks within 48 hours and is effective for up to 3 months. It does not work against fleas, chewing lice or mosquitoes.

There are many flea and tick products sold at pet stores, grocery stores and hardware stores, however, these cheap products have a bad reputation of causing skin irritations, seizures and even death is some cases.
