Respiratory Technician Salaries

Respiratory technicians assist doctors and therapists with providing treatments to patients with respiratory illnesses or chronic lung conditions. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 16,210 respiratory technicians worked in the United States in 2008.

    • In May 2008, the two largest employers for respiratory technicians were general hospitals and offices of physicians, where technicians averaged $44,050 and $41,730, respectively.

    Highest Paying Employers

    • In 2008, the highest paying employers for respiratory technicians were health and personal care stores, ambulatory health care services, medical staffing and employment agencies, offices of health practitioners other than physicians and professional equipment wholesalers. Technicians working in these fields averaged between $44,740 and $52,360.

    Largest Areas

    • The states of Idaho, Kentucky, Alabama, Louisiana and Texas had the highest concentrations of respiratory technicians in May 2008, where workers averaged $41,930, $39,440, $36,020, $42,820, and $42,010, respectively.

    Highest Paying Areas

    • In May 2008, the states of Nevada, Maryland, New Jersey, New Hampshire and California were home to the highest paid respiratory technicians. Those working in the fields in these states earned an average of between $53,440 and $63,880.
