Motherwort Benefits

A common flowering plant and often regarded as a weed, motherwort is espoused by some as having great health benefits when ingested in a liquid form. Motherwort is found in North America, Asia and Central Europe.

  1. Menopause

    • Motherwort is said to alleviate hot flashes, anxiety and insomnia in women who have entered menopause.

    Heart Health

    • Motherwort enthusiasts claim that the minerals, trace elements, and alkaloids in this herb can relieve palpitations and tachycardia.

    Childbirth

    • Motherwort used in childbirth supposedly spurs a new mother's milk to flow, eases uterine pain before and after giving birth, may treat postpartum depression, and some claim it can prevent miscarriages.

    Hypertension

    • Since motherwort may improve blood flow, it can be used to ease hypertension and prevent blood clots, which may help prevent strokes.

    Other Conditions

    • Motherwort may also aid in the treatment of headaches, vertigo, asthma, bronchitis and thyroid disease.
