Advice & Destination Wedding
Destination weddings offer an alternative to the traditional wedding. Fewer people are willing or able to make the trip so destination weddings are typically smaller. When planning a destination wedding, there are a few important tips to keep in mind.
-
Visit First
-
Travel magazines can make almost anywhere look like paradise. Before planning the biggest day of your life, visit your destination site at least once to make sure it really is paradise.
Discounts
-
Unless you are paying for everything, remember that destination weddings can be expensive for your guests. Most hotels and vendors will offer substantial discounts to wedding parties, so be sure to ask if they have any specials or deals.
-
Save the Date
-
Destination weddings require much more notice than traditional affairs. Plan to send out your save-the-date notices six to eight months before the wedding.
Think of Your Guests
-
Put together welcome baskets for your guests containing information on local points of interest, restaurants and activities. You can also include small gifts. For example, if you are getting married in Hawaii, include flip-flops, sunscreen and a beach towel.
Wedding Planner
-
Different countries have different legal requirements for marriage. The easiest way to navigate is to hire a planner who is familiar with local laws and customs.
