Proper Dress Attire for Business
Business attire is always called for when you have an interview, no matter how well you know the person or how casual the office environment is. While you don't need to be dressed like the head of the company, you should wear an outfit that's appropriate for the position you're seeking.
-
Shoes
-
Men's and women's shoes should be conservative and well-maintained. Men can stick with lace-up dress shoes. Women should wear shoes with small heels.
Skirts
-
Skirt or dress hems should fall right above or right below a woman's knee. When she sits, her thighs still need to be covered.
-
Shirt
-
Solid, long-sleeved, pressed dress shirts with a collar in blue or white are your best bet. Women have more leeway with blouses, but avoid low necklines.
Pants
-
Tailored dress slacks are the appropriate pants for this environment. They need to be hemmed so they land at the top of the shoes.
Tie
-
Men wear ties with this attire. Stick with well-made silk ones in solid, conservative colors such as navy blue or brown.
Accessories
-
Wear few accessories. Women should stick with one pair of earrings and ring for each finger. Men wearing a watch and a ring will suffice.
