70's Party Decoration Ideas

For a 70s-themed party, you might think about having a disco theme, but remember that the hippie movement was also still strong during that decade. Raid your local flea markets and secondhand stores for items like macrame plant hangers, pet rocks, beanbag chairs, LPs and milk crates to transform the venue into a swinging 70s lounge.   1. Disco Ball

    • No 70s party is complete without a mirrored disco ball spinning in the middle of the ceiling. The ball usually designates the location of the dance floor.

    Lighting

    • Position a lava lamp in each corner of the room and on the tables. Scatter candles throughout the space for added affect.

    Beaded Curtains

    • Hang multicolored beaded curtains in doorways, in the archways between rooms and in the windows.

    Posters

    • Hang posters representing iconic celebrities or shows from that era, like Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, "Saturday Night Fever" and "M*A*S*H."

    Tie Dye

    • Drape your furniture and tables in tie-dyed banners. Use paper cups, plates and napkins with the pattern to serve food and drinks.

    Roller Rink

    • Turn your driveway or garage into a roller rink. Rent flashing, colored lights and set up a "DJ booth" on a table with a turntable and two big speakers.
