Junior High School Prom Etiquette

A junior high school prom essentially follows the same etiquette as a high school formal. Following the rules your school has set for the dress code and behavior goes along with proper etiquette for the event.

  1. Ladies' Attire

    • A cocktail-length dress is the best choice. If it's strapless, wear a shawl or wrap. Wear shoes with heels that are not too high and you can comfortably walk in.

    Gentlemen's Attire

    • Boys can rent a tuxedo, wear a dress suit, or sport coat with dress pants, a collared shirt and tie. Dress shoes are a must.

    Punctuality

    • Be on time. Boys, pick up your date at the agreed-upon time. Girls, be ready when he arrives.

    Manners

    • A gentleman opens the door for his date and pulls out her chair. A lady thanks her escort for his attentiveness.

    Socializing

    • The prom is a social event, but not at the expense of your date. Don't ignore your escort. The two of you are supposed to enjoy the night together.

    Dancing

    • Dancing with others is fine, but the first and last dance are for your date.
