Alternatives to Paypal for eBay

EBay recently banned cash, money orders and checks as payment most transactions. Using any of these methods of payment for an eBay seller is permitted only if the buyer picks up the item in person and pays the seller directly or the item falls into a specified category. There is a short list of PayPal alternatives.

  1. ProPay

    • ProPay works similarly to PayPal, allowing sellers to accept credit cards online without getting a merchant account.

    Moneybookers

    • Moneybookers is an accepted payment site that boasts more than 7 million online customers. It accepts payment through Visa and MasterCard.

    Paymate

    • Another payment site that allows credit card transactions, Paymate is available only to sellers in the United States, New Zealand and Australia.

    Merchant Accounts

    • Sellers can accept credit cards without going through a third-party credit card acceptance company if they have their own merchant accounts. To get a merchant account, a seller can either apply to each credit card company for acceptance or set up his own website with a hosting package that includes merchant accounts.

    Other Payments

    • When paying for a car, boat or other vehicle or for large business equipment, checks and money orders are still allowed. Money transfers from one bank to another also are allowed for vehicle and business equipment categories.
