Husky Puppy Facts

It's important that an owner knows about the temperament and traits of the husky breed. They are born looking like furry mini-wolves but they need guidance and direction from the very beginning to grow into well-mannered dogs. If the owner knows what he is getting into with a husky puppy, then he will know how to cope with all the challenges they may bring.

  1. Crate training

    • Tired husky puppy outside his crate

Husky puppies will sleep in their crate as soon as you bring them home. Continue to provide positive associations between your pup and his crate and he will know this is his special place.

    Vaccinations

    • Before they are a 1-year-old, Husky puppies need many vaccinations from distemper, kennel cough and rabies.

    Fun facts

    • Husky in the snow

Huskies rarely bark. This is because if they make any noise at all it's usually a howl, a trait which is a holdover from the breed's sled-dog days.

    Water requirements

    • Husky puppy near water bowl

Husky pups will drink as much water as often as they can. They eventually grow up and don't drink so ravenously but you should always provide clean, cool water for your puppy.

    Warning

    • Teach your puppy from the very beginning that you are in charge, not him. When a puppy knows his place in the household, he's less likely to engage in unruly behavior like digging and howling.

    Time Frame

    • Siberian husky puppies

A puppy should not be separated from his mother before he is 8 weeks old. The ideal time to place one in a home is between 8 and 12 weeks of age.
