Tylenol is an acetaminophen product that comes in a wide selection of dosage types to cure various ailments. It is available in both pill and liquid form and is usually taken orally.

    • Tylenol is widely available in both regular and extra strength formulas as well as more specific formulas for arthritis, allergies, sleep aid, and sinus congestion. There are also milder formulas for both children and infants.

    Dosage

    • The recommended dosage of Tylenol for adults and children aged 12 years and older is 650-1000 mg every four to six hours; for children under 12, 10-15 mg is the proper dosage. Some brands of Tylenol, such as the extra strength variety, are not to be administered to children less than 12 years of age.

    Side Effects

    • Side effects with regular use of Tylenol are rare. In high and regular dosages, liver damage can occur.

    Drug Interactions

    • Those who overdose on Tylenol, in conjunction with regular anticonvulsant medication use, are at risk for developing hepatotoxicity.

    Warning

    • Alcohol abusers who take Tylenol excessively are at an increased risk for liver damage. A person who consumes three or more alcoholic drinks per week should consult a physician before using Tylenol.
