Everyday Uses for Coffee Filters

While coffee filters are porous, if they are layered together when they are dry, they are fairly strong. Find alternate uses for your coffee filters to save money--and paper towels.

    Wine

  1. If a bit of cork falls into a wine bottle when you open it, hold a filter over a wine glass and slowly pour the wine through it to strain the cork from the liquid.
  2. Sachets

  3. Make inexpensive sachets by putting a few tablespoons of potpourri in a filter, tying it with ribbon and tucking it in a drawer or closet to freshen your clothes.
  4. Glass Buffer

  5. Use coffee filters to clean windows, mirrors, computer screens and the like without leaving any lint behind.
  6. Servers

  7. Serve oily or messy finger foods like popcorn, hot wings and Popsicles with coffee filters to reduce the mess.
  8. Microwave

  9. Cover foods that are likely to splatter in the microwave, like tomato sauce, with a filter before heating.
  10. Camera Flash

  11. Soften the flash on a camera by taping a filter over it, which keeps from blinding people when you take pictures.
