Ginger has a long history of use in food and drink. The plant was nearly lost after the fall of Rome, where the plant was used widely. However, it was rediscovered by Europeans and has since been used in ales, breads, cakes, ginger snaps and biscuits. The tea is one of the strongest tonics for the lungs and respiratory system. The tea has many other medicinal uses, as well. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Circulation

    • Ginger tea enhances blood flow and circulation. Increased blood flow to the skin's surface helps with many circulatory problems in the hands and feet. The tea also helps alleviate high blood pressure.

    Nausea

    • Ginger relieves many forms of nausea. It's useful in combating motion or travel sickness. It also helps treat nausea related to pregnancy.

    Fevers

    • Ginger tea increases body perspiration, and decrease high body temperatures caused by a fever. Elderflower or yarrow can be added to tea to help alleviate a fever.

    Menstrual Cramps

    • Ginger is a useful remedy for menstrual cramps. Ginger helps to relax muscular spasms that cause cramping. The herbal tea is also nourishing to the entire reproductive system.

    Gingerol

    • Gingerol, a chemical present in ginger, gives the root its hot taste. The chemical is responsible for many of the healing effects of ginger because of its ability to stimulate the body.
