Anti Bark Devices for Dogs
Uncontrolled dog barking has become a common problem in the United States as more and more dogs are left alone in smaller and smaller yards while their owners are at work. It can be even worse for dogs that are left alone in houses, garages or apartments. There are numerous devices that have been developed to help dogs curb their out-of-control barking.
-
Electric Shock Collars
-
Electric shock collars produce a shock to the dog whenever it barks. They are very effective, but are considered cruel by animal activists and are illegal in some countries (Australia, for example).
Beeping and Shocking Collars
-
These provide a warning beep before shocking the dog. They can be adjusted to provide a beep only after the dog has learned to associated the beep with the shock.
-
Sound-Emitting Devices
-
These devices have sensors that set off a very annoying tone every time the dog barks. Some tones are too high for humans to hear. These can also be used to discourage a neighbor's dog from barking.
Citronella Collars
-
When dogs bark, these collars emit a spray of citronella oil, which most dogs have an aversion to. However, dogs tend to get used to the smell when exposed to it too often.
Guardian-Activated Devices
-
These are noisemakers or bottles that spray water that people can use when dogs bark. This is not considered as effective as the other options because dogs tend to associate the person with the aversion instead of the barking.
