Office Wedding Shower Etiquette

Brides often have several wedding showers, including one at work. Office showers vary from traditional wedding showers in that they are often held at the office break room and include the entire office, even if they were not invited to the wedding.

  1. Who's Invited?

    • Etiquette states an office shower is the only type of pre-wedding party that not all the guests have to be invited to the wedding. If the bride works in a small office, it is best to invite everyone, otherwise, just select the people in her department.

    Location

    • Most office showers occur in the office break room or conference room during lunchtime. If this is not accessible, the hosts might try to reserve a large table at a nearby restaurant.

    Length

    • If an office shower occurs during the lunch hour, hosts should keep it around an hour so everyone can return to work promptly afterward.

    Food

    • Depending on how simple the affair is, sometimes co-workers just provide a shower cake and ice cream. Other times, each guest will bring a dish for a potluck shower, consisting of simple things such as deli trays, salads and rolls.

    Gifts

    • Some guests might try to find out where the bride is registered on their own, but often a group of women will combine their money and buy a group gift from the registry.
