Menu Ideas for Weddings
Menu ideas for weddings may be drawn from anywhere, depending on your reception venue and/or the ability of your caterer. If you want to offer your guests a traditional wedding menu, then you will be offering several different courses.
-
Hors d'Oeuvres
-
Hors d'oeuvres are most often eaten during the cocktail hour and are either left on a table or passed around to guests by waiters. Some excellent ideas for hors d'oeuvres include a cheese and fruit platter, chicken satay with peanut sauce, scallops wrapped in bacon, mini quiche, stuffed mushrooms and herb-crusted tenderloin.
Appetizers
-
Appetizers are the first course served at the table. These are often not offered at weddings with a buffet. Some popular appetizers to serve at weddings include shrimp cocktail, fresh fruit cocktail, Italian wedding soup, clam chowder or lobster bisque.
-
Salad
-
Salad is the next course served at the table or may be offered as part of a buffet. Some typical salads seen at weddings are garden, Caesar or antipasto.
Sorbet
-
Sorbet is similar to ice cream and is a palate cleanser which means it removes all flavors already in the mouth to ready your taste buds for the next course. Some typical flavors include lemon, strawberry and orange.
Main Course
-
The main course should include a protein, starch and vegetables unless it is a vegetarian meal, which should always be offered to vegetarian guests. Sample main course include chicken marsala, beef tenderloin, chicken Oscar, prime rib and surf and turf.
Dessert
-
The wedding cake may be served as dessert, but this does not need to be the only dessert. Consider serving ice cream with the cake or offering an assortment of small pastries, Italian cookies or chocolate-covered strawberries.
