Rules of Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Duel

The concept of tag team duels in the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game was first shown in an episode of the anime TV show. Eventually, Upper Deck Entertainment and the game creators came up with official rules for tag duels in the actual game. These rules are very close to what was shown in the anime.

  1. Setup

    • The two teams sit across from each other, with teammates sitting side by side. Each team starts the game with a combined 8,000 life points.

    Turns

    • Players alternate turns between teams. After one player's turn, comes the turn for a player on the other team. The second player on the first team then goes, followed by the second player on the second team.

    Teamwork

    • Teammates can collaboratively set monster, spell and trap cards. Any spells, traps and effects from one player's end of the field can benefit his teammate's attack or defense.

    Battle

    • Players can attack monsters on either of their opponents' end of the field. They can also attack any opponent directly if that opponent has no monsters on his end.

    Damage

    • Any attack that results in battle damage takes life points away from the team's overall meter. The first team to reduce the other's life points to 0 wins the duel.
