Camping Dinner Ideas
There is nothing like spending time in the great outdoors to work up an appetite. And there are some dinner ideas that can be tried out on the next campout.
-
Macaroni and Cheese
-
This American dinner standard has been made easier by the addition of cheese sauce packets, eliminating the need for milk and butter. To change things up a bit, add sliced, roasted hot dogs or toss a handful of vegetables into the pot.
Red Beans and Rice
-
Available in pre-packaged mixes in which you just add water, these one-skillet meals are easy to prepare. Stir in some grilled, smoked sausage or sliced chicken breast and you've got yourself a dinner.
-
Spaghetti
-
The perfect solution to the "I don't like fish" battle cry. Bring some fun noodles, such as bow ties or spirals. Boil, drain and add a jar of sauce.
Shish Kebabs
-
Shish kebabs can be as much fun to make as they are to eat. Select any variety of boneless meats and seasonal, fresh vegetables. Cut the ingredients into large chunks at home and stash them in the cooler in zippered storage bags until you're ready to skewer them. Then sprinkle with seasonings and roast over the fire.
Foil Dinners
-
These are a camping classic. Take a sheet of foil and place a piece of meat--a pork chop, chicken breast or hamburger patty--in the center; Add a peeled and sliced potato, a few slices of carrot, a wedge of onion and a generous dollop of butter. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Seal the edges and place over the fire for 30 minutes.
