Golf Club Fitting Information
There are numerous ways golfers can be fitted for golf clubs. With a constant flood of technology and products in the golf industry, keeping up with the best way to be fitted may be a challenge for golfers of all skill levels.
-
Basic Measurements
-
There are three basic measurements for golf clubs: loft, lie and length.
Loft
-
Loft is the degree of slant on a specific clubface. This is crucial to fittings for drivers, where it can vary from 6 degrees to as much as 15 degrees, depending on a player's ability and preference.
-
Lie
-
Lie is a measurement of how the bottom, or sole, of a club sits on the ground in relation to a golfer's stance. Lie is given in three measurements: neutral, upright and flat.
Length
-
Length is simply the length of a golf shaft, which can be fitted to a player's height. It is often given in measurements of "standard" or perhaps "1 inch over standard" for taller players.
Where to Go
-
Your local golf course is the fastest and easiest place to start. Any nearby golf course that has a pro shop and sells golf clubs should have a trained teaching professional or knowledgeable salesperson who can offer advice and answer questions. Golf retail stores with outdoor hitting ranges often provide the best in product selection and fitting technology.
