Things to Do By Yourself in New York City

Some people feel uncomfortable with the idea of doing things by themselves. But New York City is full of educational and entertaining things to do and a great mass of people who go it alone.

Rent a Bike

Rent a bike and explore the city. Central Park has miles of pathways to explore, and the West Side bike path runs along the Hudson river from Harlem to Battery City.

Theater

Orchestra seats are easier to come by for those going solo. For a little extra money, solo visitors can sit with their feet against the orchestra pit during a musical or play.

Subway

The subway is full of all sorts of odd folk to covertly observe. Find yourself amazed at how the smells vary from car to car or how people never look at one another while en route to their stop.

Film

New York City is full of big fans of cinema. Catching a film at the cutting-edge movie house Film Forum is a stimulating way to spend an evening alone.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

This museum houses one of the most extensive collections of art in the country. For a good view of Central Park and midtown, head up to the rooftop terrace.
