Information on Airbrush Tanning

Airbrush tanning gives you the look of a suntan without exposing your skin to the harmful rays of the sun. Unlike tanning beds, which expose you to harmful light, airbrush tanning does not involve UVA or UVB rays. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Benefits

    • Unlike a stand-up spray tanning booth, airbrush tanning is done by a technician for a more personalized touch. The use of a hand-held device ensures entire body coverage.

    Ingredients

    • The chemical dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is used to coat the skin and give the appearance of a tan without using harmful artificial or natural light.

    Safety

    • The FDA has approved the use of DHA to be externally applied to the skin, with the precaution of avoiding inhalation, ingestion or exposure to the lips, nose or eye area.

    Tips

    • Exfoliate and moisturize your skin before airbrushing. Choose a light to medium-toned product for a more natural-looking tan. Wait for the product to dry on your skin before getting dressed.

    Considerations

    • Airbrush tanning products do not contain sunscreen protection. Inhaling airbrush spray can cause adverse reactions such as coughing, dizziness and fainting.
