Risks of Taking Phentermine

Phentermine is an appetite suppressant that is used to treat severe obesity. It works best when used in conjunction with diet and exercise. One capsule is effective for 12 to 14 hours. Phentermine has a number of side effects and risks.

    Side Effects

  1. Phentermine side effects include shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, swelling, heart palpitations, chest pain, confusion, high blood pressure, dry mouth and impotence.
  2. Allergic Reaction

  3. An allergic reaction to phentermine can cause hives, which can last from four hours to several weeks.
  4. Withdrawal

  5. Withdrawing from phentermine abruptly can cause depression and fatigue. Your doctor may recommend weaning off the drug gradually.
  6. Usage in Pregnancy and Children

  7. It is not recommended that pregnant women or children under the age of 12 use phentermine.
  8. Drug Dependence and Abuse

  9. Phentermine, like other amphetamines, is often abused and can cause dependency if not used as instructed by a health care professional.
