The Best USA Vacation Spots

The United States is a wide and varied country that stretches between two oceans. The choices for vacation spots are quite long, even if you only include the continental 48 and exclude Alaska and Hawaii, which are marvelous places to also take a short or long vacation. Included are six places located across the width and breadth of America that provide a rich diversity of experience and fun.

  1. Acadia National Park

    • Located along the coast of Maine on Mt. Desert Island is a beautiful, rocky and mountainous national park called Acadia. Nearby is the popular town of Bar Harbor where you can find a nice room in a motel or a B&B or take a scenic boat ride along Frenchman's Bay. The park is centered around a $20 toll road that winds through the rugged and spectacular coastal mountains.

    Staten Island Ferry

    • New York City is a great place to visit, especially when you take a free ride (pedestrians are free) on the popular ferry. The view of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty are fabulous. To further explore the mouth of the Hudson River, take a walk through Tribeca, a section of Lower Manhattan or cross to the west side of the river and visit the Palisades State Park in New Jersey. A drive up the west side of the historic river features many other wonderful places.

    Jackson Square in New Orleans

    • New Orleans is unlike any other city in the United States. To get a feeling for this unique city, come to Jackson Square, which sits in the heart of the French Quarter near the Mississippi River. Take a ride on a riverboat, get pulled by a horse-drawn carriage or just wander through the old French Quarter. Nearby is Pirate's Alley, Royal Street and the Preservation Hall, an old storefront where the Preservation Jazz band plays. This place really swings in the spring when the weather is not too hot.

    Grand Tetons National Park

    • Located in the northwestern corner of Wyoming, right near the Yellowstone National Park, this park features some astounding peaks, the scenic Snake River and some wonderful back country. Find a campsite with a view of the peaks or take a horse trip or hike up to the base of the majestic peaks. After you finish discovering this park, Yellowstone National Park, located just a few miles north, also awaits you.

    Golden Gate Bridge

    • Join the crowd and take a stroll across this famous bridge. The view of the mighty steel structure, the city of steep hills and the beautiful bay is magic. You will also find a score of interesting things to do in and around the city.

    Santa Fe Indian Market

    • This event occurs every August in the fascinating city of Santa Fe, N.M. Native vendors travel from all over the country as do the buyers and visitors. The range of goods and artwork sold is quite wide, but the quality is always the best.
