Maid of Honor Etiquette

The maid of honor is the bride's right-hand woman during the wedding planning, and she is responsible for coordinating activities related to the bridesmaids, such as dress fittings. On the wedding day, she assists the bride all day as needed until she departs for her wedding night.

    Bridal Shower

  1. The maid of honor coordinates and hosts the main bridal shower and dictates how the other bridesmaids can assist her.
  2. Parties

  3. The bride may request the maid of honor's presence at other wedding-related events, such as engagement parties and meet-the-family brunches.
  4. Bachelorette Party

  5. Arranging the bachelorette party, making sure the bride has a good time and seeing that she gets home safely also are part of the maid of honor's responsibilities.
  6. Ceremony

  7. During the wedding, the maid of honor handles such duties as arranging the bride's train, holding the bride's bouquet during the ceremony and performing a reading from the Bible or other material.
  8. Dressing

  9. The maid of honor helps the bride into her gown, bustles the dress at the reception and assists the bride in changing into her honeymoon outfit.
  10. License

  11. The maid of honor and the best men act as witnesses and sign the couple's marriage license, typically the day before or the day of the wedding.
