Clerk Job Descriptions

A clerk performs administrative duties and support in such areas as accounting, human resources, and record keeping.

  1. Education

    • A minimum of a high school education is preferred. Some college coursework or a college degree is desired. Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) and/or Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is highly desired.

    Required Experience

    • A clerk must have experience or extensive training in the use of computers and their related office software. It is essential that they type at high speeds since many of their duties involve written communications and reporting. Ideal individuals are able to work on multiple projects, and communicate effectively in all technologies related to communications.

    Responsibilities

    • Daily responsibilities can include:
      •Typing various assignments using word processing suites
      •Assists in the flow of office communications through emails, telephone calls, and meetings
      •Resolves administrative problems and inquiries related to the running of the office or department
      •Monitors office supply levels for replenishment
      •Provides basic assistant support to upper level supervisors, managers, and executives
      •Higher level Clerk II positions may also oversee and supervise other clerical staff

    Salary

    • The national salary range average for a clerical position is between $20,000 to $37,000 annually.

    • The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
      •Strong knowledge of office software applications
      •Strong verbal and written communication skills and experience in the use of email and the Internet
      •Excellent numeracy proficiency
      •Knowledge or experience in office systems and procedures
      •Knowledge or experience in administrative procedures
