Mexicana Airlines, based in Mexico City, serves destinations in North, Central and South America, Europe and the Caribbean. The airline is a member of the Oneworld alliance, along with American Airlines and British Airways.

Founding

Mexicana Airlines was founded by Americans Lloyd A. Winship, Harry J. Lawson and Elmer C. Hammond on July 12, 1921. Its first route was from Mexico City to Tampico.
Beyond Mexico
Jet Age

Mexicana introduced jet service between Mexico City and Los Angeles, California on July 4, 1960 using Comet 4C aircraft.
Latin American Expansion

The airline, utilizing Boeing 727 aircraft, began service in 1971 to San Juan, Puerto Rico from Mexico City and Denver, Colorado to Mazatlan. In 1984, Mexicana opened new central offices, including a control tower, heliport and reservation center. The building soon became a Mexico City landmark.
Today

Mexicana has continued to modernize its fleet with new Airbus A319, A320 and A330 aircraft. The airline began a codeshare agreement with American Airlines and Iberia in 2004.
