Why Use a Temp Service?

Temp services are used by businesses in a number of ways and for a number of reasons. They provide temporary workers for companies when uncontrollable factors preclude a business from hiring a full-time employee.

  1. Budget

    • Some companies do not have the current budget for a full-time employee. However, they do have a budget to pay for a temporary position.

    Fit

    • Sometimes employees are not a good fit for an organization's culture. Hiring a temp will allow the organization to see how the person will or will not fit into the company.

    Short Term Needs

    • Many companies have cycles throughout the year where demand is greater, and hiring a temp worker for a few days or weeks could mean the difference between serving customers and refusing service.

    Seasonal

    • Other companies have a more specific, seasonal need for workers. For example, water parks only need employees during the summer, so they contract with a staffing agency for workers only during the summer months.

    Temp to Perm

    • To "test drive" a worker, sometimes a company will use a temp-to-perm service. This allows it to convert the employee into its own if he performs well.
