About Churros

Churros are deep-fried strips of dough similar to American doughnuts that originated in Spain. They have become popular in Mexico, too.

  1. Ingredients

    • Churros are made from flour, baking powder, water, salt, dark brown sugar and egg yolks.

    Tool

    • Churros are usually made with a churrera, a tool similar to a cookie press fitted with a star tip. The dough is pushed through the star tip into 4-inch lengths. A pastry bag with a star tip also works.

    Serving

    • Making Churros

      After deep frying, churros can be served with lime wedges, rolled in cinnamon-sugar, dusted with powdered sugar, or dunked in chocolate.

      Churros are traditionally dipped in a hot chocolate sauce thickened with cornstarch. This sauce is similar to a warm chocolate pudding.
