Public Smoking Ban Facts
Throughout the United States public smoking has been banned in many establishments out of concern for the effects second-hand smoke will have on others in the vicinity. There are now few places that a smoker can have a cigarette, cigar, or pipe indoors and no smoking signs are seen on many building. The list of places a smoker can't light up is longer than that where he can.

The Workplace

According to Smoke Free USA smoking is now banned in most workplaces throughout the country. Smoking is particularly banned in hospitals, government buildings, schools, museums and theaters.
Traveling

Smoking is banned on airplanes, buses and trains. Smokers in an airport have to go to a special room and individuals staying in a hotel must request a smoking room in order to avoid having to go outside to smoke.

Restaurants

Some, but not all, states ban smoking in restaurants. The states that have implemented this ban so far are California, Delaware, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, Montana, South Dakota, Ohio, Nevada and Arizona.
Bars

Throughout the United States smoking is still allowed in some bars even if it is not allowed in restaurants. Banning of smoking in bars is left up to the individual towns and cities.
Indian Reservation Casinos

There is no ban on smoking within casinos that are on Indian reservations. This is true regardless of how widespread a smoking ban is within a given state.
