Daycare Teacher Responsibilities
A daycare teacher is a type of preschool teacher who provides child care and education to children who are too young to attend elementary school during the day while their parents are at work. Each day, daycare teachers perform a variety of duties.
-
Planning
-
Daycare teachers establish lesson plans to follow the curriculum of the daycare center. Their plans include lessons on: basic concepts, like shapes and colors; social skills, like sharing: and building blocks for reading and mathematics, like letters, numbers and patterns.
Activities
-
Working from their plans, daycare teachers design activities to develop fine motor skills, such as coloring, cutting and pasting, and gross motor skills, such as jumping, running and balancing. They also encourage children to develop creativity through pretend play, music and crafts.
-
Needs
-
Daycare teachers assist children with feeding and toileting. They also watch out for their safety and provide them emotional comfort while they are away from home.
Development
-
Daycare teachers monitor the development of the children they care for, keeping an eye out for any need for extra help. When help from the daycare center fails to provide enough assistance, daycare teachers assist families with obtaining early intervention for any developmental delays.
Communication
-
Daycare teachers communicate with other members of the staff, such as assistants, office personnel and the center director. They also provide reports to parents about the progress of their children.
