Certified Public Accountants (CPA) in private practice offer their services to individuals and companies to advise and assist them in matters concerning their finances. CPAs are generally busiest around tax filing time and are either self-employed or employees of a larger accounting firm.
Management Accountants

Management accountants work directly for one company and organization. They assist with creating budgets, managing costs and assets, and strategic planning.

Government accountants perform similar work to management accountants, but work in the public sector for government offices and agencies.
Auditors

Auditors examine the financial records of companies to ensure accurate reporting and to locate instances of fraud and embezzlement. Internal auditors work directly for a company or agency on a continuous basis, while external auditors work for an independent auditing firm on a periodic basis.
Educators

Accounting educators usually hold masters or doctoral degrees in accounting and provide instruction to students of accounting at community colleges, business schools, and universities. They may also conduct continuing education courses for accountants that many states require to continue holding an accounting certification or license.
