    • Bohlin was working for Swedish auto manufacturer Volvo at the time, making them the first to offer the modern seatbelt to car owners in 1959.

    Recognition

    • Bohlin was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 1999 for his lasting contribution to the auto industry. He died in 2002.

    Effects

    • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that seatbelts have saved nearly 150,000 lives between 1975 and 2001.
