HDTVs are much sharper than standard TVs in video and sound quality. However, many questions about HDTVs still remain unanswered for many people. What are some of the top things that the average person should know about HDTVs?

    What does HDTV mean?

  1. HDTV stands for High-Definition Television, and it can either mean a type of television set or the standard of broadcasting meant to be viewed on that type of television.
  2. Can I watch regular television shows on HDTV?

  3. Yes, you can watch regular television shows on HDTV; however, since the HDTV set blows standard television shows up to a larger size, you might see more of the flaws in the video. The sound may also be muffled.
  4. Why are HDTVs wider than normal TVs?

  5. The standard for HDTVs is 16:9 as opposed to the aspect ratio of 4:3 in normal TVs so that they will be in accordance with movies' standard aspect ratio of 16:9.
  6. Are DVDs in HD?

  7. No. Only Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs are in HD format.
  8. How much better is the resolution of HDTV than standard TV?

  9. The resolution of HDTV is about twice as high as that of standard television sets.
  10. Are all televisions able to receive HD signals?

  11. No. You need to purchase a television set that is HD-ready to view HD programming.
