- Since eczema is an immune response, and there is no way to control the reaction of the immune system, there isn't a way to determine what the exact cause of the outbreak is.
- Eczema can be itchy. Help alleviate symptoms by bathing baby less frequently. Keep baths under 15 minutes, that way her skin's natural oils can build up and bring some soothing relief.
- Use a gentle moisturizer immediately after bath time to seal in moisture. Pick a lotion formulated for sensitive skin so dyes and fragrances won't irritate the outbreak. Dab on a bit of hydrocortisone 1 percent to the affected spots to reduce itching and swelling.
- Consider putting a humidifier in baby's bedroom. Warm, dry air can enhance eczema symptoms. Just make sure the humidifier is cleaned regularly to prevent mildew and bacteria from forming.
- Eczema in babies looks very similar to the contagious fungus ringworm. Ringworm is transmitted to babies from other people. Because ringworm is treated differently than eczema, be sure to have your pediatrician examine the rash to make a proper diagnosis.
