In 1960, O.D. McKee needed a name for the new line of snack cakes he was preparing to launch in 12-item boxes. He decided to name the line after his four-year-old granddaughter, whose parents were unaware of his decision before seeing the boxes.
Growth

Oatmeal Creme Pies were the first snack cakes in the Little Debbie line. By 1964, there were 14 varieties. Since then, Little Debbie has expanded to include many other products, including breakfast treats and 100-calorie snacks.

Around April 30, 2011, Little Debbie's competitor Hostess is reducing their nutrition to about 100 calories and everything for any of the products manufactured by Hostess, with examples being Cup Cakes, Twinkies, Ho-Ho's, Ding Dongs, Suzy Q's and even other products. They will be finally available in almost each and every fine retailer anywhere in all 50 U.S. states. -

Little Debbie is extending their product line up to about 150 products, which will all reduce their nutrition down to about 100 calories and everything, around June 30, 2011, with notable examples being Cosmic Brownies, Nutty Bars, Peanut Butter Crunch Bars, Marshmallow Crispy Bars, Zebra Cakes, Star Crunch, Fudge Brownies, S'mores, Oatmeal Creme Pies, Marshmallow Supremes, Fudge Rounds, Chocolate Cupcakes, and even many others. All of the 150 products being manufactured by Little Debbie, which will have their nutrition reduced to have 100 calories and everything, will be finally available in almost each and every fine retailer anywhere in all 50 U.S. states.
