Interesting Places in Iceland

Iceland, which sits off the coast of Europe, was not thought of much as a vacation destination until word started to spread about its beauty and appeal. It is quickly becoming one of the most sought after getaway locations. The country is remote and full of some of the world's most beautiful natural marvels. Here are some of the intriguing things to see in Iceland.

The Geysers

The Great Geyser was once considered the greatest natural attraction in Iceland. In the 19th century the Geyser would shoot up 80-meters in the air, but today it is dormant.

Gulfoss Waterfall

Also known as "Golden Falls," Gulfoss is a 105-foot double-cascade waterfall. Dozens of rainbows surround Europe's most powerful waterfall daily.

Northern Lights

One of nature's most beautiful phenomenons, the Northern Lights (or Aurora Ovals), are geomagnetic poles where auroras are created. Not only is it an amazing sight, but it is science happening right before your eyes.

The Blue Lagoon

Blue-green algae and white silica mud on the bottom of the lagoon give the water an aquamarine cover. Although it is man made, the temperature is always warm and people swim in its waters year round, even when snow covers the ground around them.

Snæfellsnes Glacier

Located 60 miles away from Reykjavik, the Snæfellsnes Glacier can be seen all day from the city on a clear day. This glacier is so famous it was even mentioned in Journey to the Center of the Earth.
