USB cables are used to transfer data between devices and computers. They are the universally accepted standard of computer integration with many consumer electronics. Whether syncing an iPod or transferring video from a camcorder to a computer, USB makes these tasks quick and simple.

    Pre-USB

  1. Before the invention of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) standard, computer peripherals were difficult to connect to a computer because of the many serial I/O standards and the need to reboot when connecting them.

  3. USB was intended to create a universal standard to connect plug and play peripherals to computers. The hot swappable feature enables devices to connect without rebooting.

  5. Since the invention of USB the computing and consumer electronics industry has changed dramatically by the simplicity and convenience USB offers. Integrating electronics with PC applications quickly and easily has promoted rapid growth in the industry.

  7. Each new USB standard offers more speed and functionality. The current standards are USB 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0

  9. Many devices implement USB usage such as HDTV's, camcorders, massive storage devices, printers, cell phones and much more. These devices are able to transfer high speed data and other devices such as keyboards, mice and cell phones can be powered through USB.
