Acupuncture & Anxiety Disorders

Acupuncture is an ancient art of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) used to treat an almost unlimited range of health issues. It is particularly effective in relieving stress and anxiety.

  1. What is Acupuncture?

    • An acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of needles into specific points along a system of meridians in the body. The treatment is designed to stimulate the flow of Qi (pronounced "chee") or vital energy. The free flow of energy along these pathways allows the body to relax and heal itself.

    Treatment

    • A typical treatment involves the insertion of sterile, stainless steel needles into a selection of points to stimulate the flow of Qi. The needles are left in place for about 20 to 30 minutes while the patient lies quietly resting.

    Stress and Anxiety

    • Treatment for any issue is almost completely painless, and many patients fall asleep during their session. Specific treatments for anxiety may involve points along the body or auricular points in the ear. Most patients feel rested and completely relaxed after the treatment.

    Communication

    • The acupuncturist will talk to you at length about your condition to determine exactly what treatment will achieve the best results. It is important for your acupuncturist to have a full, honest picture of what is troubling you.

    History

    • The documented art of acupuncture dates back more than 2,500 years, making it the oldest professional medicine practiced in the world. About 1/4 of the world's population is currently treated with acupuncture.
