The Best Cruise for Families

If you're vacationing with your family and looking for a great cruise, you can do no better than Disney Cruise Line. DCL offers all the classic characters of Disney in a timeless transatlantic liner.

  1. The Staterooms

    • Disney Cruise Line sets itself apart by having the largest staterooms in the industry. With the exception of category 11 and 12 rooms, all staterooms have a split bathroom. Many of the rooms have balconies. There are many ocean-view rooms and inside staterooms as well.

    The Kids Programs

    • Disney Cruise Line has nearly an entire deck, Deck 5, devoted to children's activities. The activities are divided up into age-appropriate ranges from Flounders Reef for infants and children from ages 6 weeks to 3 years, The Oceaneer Club for children aged 3 to 7 and The Oceaneer Lab for those aged 8 to 10. There are also activities for teens as well such as Aloft on the Disney Wonder, a teen club for those 13-17 and The Stack on the Disney Magic.

    The Food

    • Disney Cruise Line offers rotational dining where you and your family can dine in three different restaurants with the same staff and the same table mates. The restaurants include: Animators Palate, a whimsical eatery where the pictures come to life; Triton's, a fine dining restaurant based on "The Little Mermaid"; and Parrot Cay, a Caribbean restaurant.

    The Entertainment

    • There is a lot of entertainment onboard a Disney Cruise Line for the whole family. Broadway shows, dance clubs and first-run movies in the Buena Vista movie theater are offered, and, of course, there are always lots of characters around. You can also take advantage of the ships pools on Deck 9: the Mickey Pool for little kids, the Goofy Pool for families and, for just adults, the Quiet Cove Pool toward the back.

    Just for the Adults

    • Don't think that a Disney Cruise Line is just for kids. There's a whole section onboard just for adults. On Deck 9, toward the back, there is the Quiet Cove Pool where you can relax at the pool or hang out in the hot tub. Adjacent to the pool is Signals, which is a pool bar. If you're interested in a coffee, check out the Cove Cafe, which is an adults-only coffee bar. Also, be sure to check out the Vista Spa and Salon as well as the fitness center, also on Deck 9 in the adults-only area. The Vista Spa alone is worth coming onto the ship.

    Castaway Cay

    • An added bonus of the Disney Cruise Line is that it visits its own private island, Castaway Cay. Much like the ship, the island is divided into three different sections: one for the little kids, Scuttles Cove; one for the teens, the Teen Beach; and one for the adults, Serenity Bay. There are various activities for the whole family on this island such as scuba diving, float/tube rentals, stingrays, parasailing, kayaking or even just lounging on the beach doing nothing. There is an outdoor barbecue, a sand lot and a dig site.
